Event Details
Calling all bluegrass and American roots music fans to join around the “campfire” with the GRAMMY Award-winning duo The Okee Dokee Brothers at Great Lakes Center for the Arts on Friday, May 10th. As childhood friends growing up in Denver, Colorado, Joe Mailander and Justin Lansing were always exploring the outdoors. Whether it was rafting down their neighborhood creek or discovering hiking trails through the Rocky Mountains, Joe and Justin were born adventurers. Now, as the GRAMMY® Award-winning Okee Dokee Brothers, they have put this passion for the outdoors at the heart of their Americana Folk music.
Joe and Justin record and perform family music with a goal to inspire children and their parents to step outside and get creative. They believe this can motivate kids to gain a greater respect for the natural world, their communities, and themselves.
The five-time Parents’ Choice Award winners have garnered praise from the likes of NPR’s All Things Considered and USA Today, and have been called “two of family music’s best songwriters.”

Preservation Hall Jazz Band was founded in 1961, and since then has been dedicated to playing and promoting the traditions of New Orleans jazz.
PHJB marches that tradition forward once again on So It Is. The album redefines what New Orleans music means today by tapping into a sonic continuum that stretches back to the city’s Afro-Cuban roots, through its common ancestry with the Afrobeat of Fela Kuti and the Fire Music of Pharoah Sanders and John Coltrane, and forward to cutting-edge artists with whom the PHJB have shared festival stages from Coachella to Newport, including legends like Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello and the Grateful Dead and modern giants like Beck, The Foo Fighters, My Morning Jacket, and the Black Keys.

Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana & Saint-Säens Organ Symphony is a true community masterpiece presenting 120 local artists spanning 4 generations! Join Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra at John M. Hall Auditorium in Bay View on June 14th for this wonderful event.
The performance includes two masterworks and audience favorites, Carmina Burana by Carl Orff and Organ Symphony by Saint Saens. Featured performers include distinguished artists of the Bay View Chautauqua Music Festival, GLCO Orchestra and Chorus, Little Traverse Choral Society led by Andre Strydom, and Harbor Springs Children ’s Choir led by Amy Cross, coming together at the historic John M. Hall Auditorium in Bay View.
This is a unique opportunity to hear these masterpieces as they both require a large performance force and thus are not presented very often. Carmina Burana was last performed in our community over a decade ago and is fondly remembered by our residents to this day. The Saint Saens’ Organ Symphony is one of the rare works that incorporates the “King of the instruments” into the fabric of the score. The organ at the John M. Hall Auditorium is a majestic instrument by Pilcher with all the stops at the disposal to recreate the soundscape of the Organ Symphony masterfully performed by a virtuoso organist Kelly Hale.

Ben Folds brings his Paper Airplane Rescue tour to John M Hall Auditorium in Bay View Association on June 28, 2024.
Bay View proudly announces Emmy-nominated, multi-platinum-selling pianist and singer-songwriter Ben Folds will return to the historic John M. Hall Auditorium stage on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 8 p.m. Folds will bring the return of his popular “Paper Airplane Request Tour” after first performing in Bay View in 2018 to a sold-out crowd.
What initially began years ago as a request for songs as encores will once again be a central element in Folds’ shows when he engages audiences to make their song requests via paper Airplanes.
“The last time I did this on tour the response was overwhelming, with literally hundreds of paper airplanes with song requests being launched on cue from fans at the start of the second half of each of my concerts,” said Folds. “It’s the purest, most low-tech form of engagement that creates a special bond with my audiences.”

Come enjoy Midtown at Lavender Hill Farm presented by The Series at Lavender Hill Farm on Saturday, July 20th from 6 – 9 PM. Midtown formed in the spring of 2018 and quickly gained attention from the barbershop and A Cappella world. In their first year together, they won the Mid-Atlantic District Quartet contest, a 5th place Bronze Medal at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Quartet Contest, and the Dealers Choice Award for the highest-scoring first-time quartet. After a three-year COVID-hiatus, they returned to the international competition and brought home a 2nd Place Silver Medal. This past July they were crowned the 2023 Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Quartet Champion. They’ve put most of their time and energy into making music videos and other forms of media to get their music and brand out to the world. Specializing in several different genres including barbershop, contemporary a Cappella, jazz, and musical theater. Based out of New York City, Midtown is eager to share its music with audiences all over the world and to bring a new flavor of 4-part harmony to the masses.

Event Details
Come enjoy The Sweet Water Warblers at Lavender Hill Farm on Saturday, July 27 from 6 – 9 PM. If the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, then The Sweet Water Warblers are no exception. Comprised of Michigan songbirds Rachael Davis, Lindsay Lou, and May Erlewine, the folk trio’s organic vocal harmonies and seamlessly interwoven instrumentation leaves listeners breathless.
The Sweet Water Warblers came together in 2014, for a single performance at the Hoxeyville Music Festival upon request by the promoter. From the beginning, there was a unique connection between the three artists, a bond forged by a mutual passion for social change and expansion of the soul through music. Each of the ladies brought with them a regarded solo career within the Americana and roots worlds, and with them individual perspectives on traditional music. Whether it was the gospel and soul-laced melodies uncovered in Davis’s music, the Appalachian folk and country-leaning ballads belted out by Erlewine, or the versatile country soul and bluegrass roots of Lou’s band it was clear from the beginning that the culmination of their talents would be unparalleled.
With three-part vocal harmonies that are sublime, the singing sirens and multi-instrumentalists saw the release of their first EP, With You, in 2017. The repertoire swinging from gospel and bluegrass to soul and even joyful interpretations of pop, AmericanaUK called it, “top drawer roots music.”

Event Details
Come enjoy The Steel Wheels at Lavender Hill Farm on Saturday, August 10th from 6 PM – 9 PM. The Steel Wheels have long been at home in the creative space between tradition and innovation, informed by the familiar sounds of the Virginia mountains where the band was formed, but always moving forward with insightful lyrics and an evolving sound. In 2005, Jay Lapp (vocals, guitars, mandolin) and Eric Brubaker (vocals, fiddle) joined lead singer Trent Wagler (guitar, banjo) in forming the band as a vehicle for Wagler’s songwriting. They released several albums under Wagler’s moniker, before officially adopting the “The Steel Wheels” name with the 2010 release of Red Wing. Quickly staking their claim as independent upstarts in the burgeoning Americana scene, The Steel Wheels followed up this release with three more self-produced albums in the next five years, before joining forces with producer Sam Kassirer for Wild As We Came Here (2017) and Over The Trees (2019). Kevin Garcia (drums, percussion, keys) joined in 2017, bringing a new level of sonic depth and polish to the outfit. Newest member Jeremy Darrow rounds out the rhythm section and grounds the band as they continue to explore deeply rooted yet fresh folk-rock sounds. Having gained the experience of thousands of shows, festivals, and many miles on the road, the stubbornly independent band has formed deep bonds with each other and the audience that sustains them.

Event Details
Come enjoy Horton Creek Bluegrass at Lavender Hill Farm on Saturday, August 31st, from 6 – 9 PM. Horton Creek Bluegrass formed in 2004 after they played what they thought was a one-time gig to fill a spot. That one show went so well that they had to keep on going. Initially, they began by playing mostly traditional bluegrass and gospel music. As time went on, they began to expand their musical influences, to create a sound that incorporates traditional/progressive bluegrass, country western, and a little bit of rock n’ roll, all while keeping the core around the root’s music.
As our sound transformed, and the chemistry between band members grew and grew, the bookings for shows started rolling in. We have played concerts for sold-out theaters, Bliss Fest, as well as being the opening act for major players in the industry, such as Trick Pony and Kellie Pickler. Their hopes are high, the bass is low, and of course, the grass is blue!

Come and see Play it Forward with Nathan & Jessie at Lavender Hill Farm on Saturday, September 14th. Music with a spirit of beauty, spontaneity, dance, and jazz improvisation! From the city where the sun shines through the mist, Temecula, California, comes the jazzy folk duo Nathan & Jessie.
Born of the individuals, Nathan Rivera and Jessie Andra Smith, this duo is a unique blend of jazzy folk and blues on resonator guitars and accordion, along with interesting interplay between male and female vocals. Often joined on tour and on recordings by their friends, Trevor Mulvey on Upright Bass, and Blake Armstrong on Drums.
Their performances not only include unique all original music, but stories of their travels and interaction with the audience that make for an unforgettable experience. Love of sharing music has taken Nathan & Jessie all over the world, frequenting places like Mexico, Canada, France, New Orleans, and the Pacific Northwest.
The upbeat tunes they write reflect the cultural, emotional, and inspirational images of their life experience and are rooted in the spirit of jazz, improvisation, storytelling, language, and humor.
