Stargazing & Northern Lights

Located at the tip of the “Mitten State”, the Petoskey Area is lucky to have many locations that are secluded from the light pollution created by our small communities’ lights. While there are many non-designated areas that are more than sufficient to have beautiful views of the night sky, the area is lucky enough to have a designated one as well. The Headlands International Dark Sky Park in Mackinaw City is just outside of Wilderness State Park and near the Mackinaw Bridge.

Looking to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights? The ever-elusive Aurora Borealis in the Petoskey Area is best seen in areas of little light pollution. It is not a guarantee that you will see them on a clear night. We would recommend checking for visibility of them in the area by visiting an aurora finder app or at Soft Serve News.
