It’s a battle of two books. Two books will be read and only kids can decide who wins! A new twist on storytime with a voting component. For ages 3-7.

Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council and the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians (LTBB) Fisheries Enhancement Facility, invites the community to the annual Nmé (Sturgeon) Celebration on Saturday, September 14, from noon to 2 p.m. at Lumberman’s Village Park in Wolverine, Michigan.

This special event marks a significant moment in conservation as we bid farewell to “Gimiwan,” the Watershed Discovery Center’s resident sturgeon, who will be released into the Sturgeon River along with hundreds of juvenile sturgeon raised at the LTBB Fisheries Enhancement Facility. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage with ongoing conservation efforts, interact with the sturgeon in a touch tank, and participate in the ceremonial release of these young fish into the river.

Best known as the star and executive producer of the hit series, THE CARBONARO EFFECT on truTV, Michael Carbonaro has also made frequent television appearances in shows such as Happily Divorced, 30 Rock, Grey’s Anatomy, and CSI Miami. A performing magician since his youth, Carbonaro went on to study experimental theater at New York University with aspirations of entertaining audiences through a variety of theatrical mediums, including hidden-camera magic, which he later showcased frequently on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”

If you know us and you’ve been to Skitoberfest, then your answer is likely 2023! We are super stoked to present Skitoberfest 2024 – an Oktoberfest-style party with a twist. Fall for winter with the return of your favorite activities – keg bowling, stein hoisting, Kids’ Zone fun, pond pedaling, and more! We’re creating the great Bier Hall filled with craft brews, delicious eats, and rockin’ the tent with live music. No Skitoberfest is complete without our Pray for Snow Bonfire, wrapping up a perfect fall day in true Boyne Mountain-fashion.

Join us for one of our super fun Halloween Weekends on Saturday, October 5, or on Saturday, October 12! Park staff will be giving an award to the Best Decorated Campsite so campers are encouraged to spruce up their sites to get in the Halloween spirit! Trick-or-treating will take place from 5-7 p.m. with vehicle traffic restricted during that time through the campground. Emmet County Parks and Recreation staff will have free hot dogs, chips, and drinks near the campground office followed by a free Haunted Trail open 7:30-8:30 p.m. All activities are weather-permitting and the general public is welcome to come out and join in the fun!

Apple Fest Fun Run is for families and teams of all ages and offers a 5k and 1mile FUN RUN each starting and ending in downtown Charlevoix at the Annual Apple Festival.

 This is a true FUN run with obstacles along the way– leave your watch at home as you won’t want to be timed for this event, but are sure to have a good time!  Event is designed for all ages and FUN run through scenic Charlevoix.

Goodies will be given away to all participants and some great local treats will be available to all at the finish line so register early.  Join Kiwanis as we help kids locally in our community!
