Shay Days 2026

This two-day, family-friendly event, now in its 28th year, celebrates inventor and Harbor Springs resident Ephraim Shay, who was famous for his patented, geared locomotive. We will host a variety of activities and educational programs this year, including:

• Live model steam trains with the Michigan Small Scale Live Steamers

• Historic toys and games with a reenactor from Hartwick Pines State Park

• Children’s crafts, games, and STEM activities in Shay Park

• Logging demonstrations with Kyle Bagnall of Mackinac State Historic Parks

• Interactive electric train layouts with the Northern Michigan Railroad Club

Shay Days is offered by donation and stands at the heart of our mission to bring history to life in the Harbor Springs area. The Historical Society welcomes sponsorships and individual donations to support this great community event.
