November is nearly here, and life has slowed down a bit after the fun, sunshine-filled craziness that summer brings. Now it’s time to relax – especially for the ladies. I think November is our month – maybe we should even declare it #InternationalLadiesMonth?

Hear me out. Summer rolls into fall with the challenges of getting kids back to school, putting the summer toys and clothes and the lawn furniture away and trying to fit in a quick color tour with the family or significant other. Before the chaos of the holidays kicks in with Thanksgiving, why not cut yourself some slack and get away with your bestie or a whole group of friends?

I know what you’re thinking. It’s November – what would you do in November in the Petoskey Area? Well, let me share some thoughts.

First, choose an awesome place to stay. In the Petoskey Area, you can stay in a full-service resort, cozy inn, incredibly comfortable condo or a hotel with just the right amenities.

How about breakfast, lunch and/or dinner somewhere that serves your favorite food instead of what someone else wants? Thai, gourmet, a fantastic burger, Mexican, Italian – you’ll find lots of options. Have dessert if you left room (get it to go if you didn’t.)

Poke through unique shops, galleries and boutiques without feeling rushed. The downtown areas of Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Bay Harbor and Boyne City are lined with amazing boutiques. Stroll to the next place and maybe even stop between stores to wrap your hands around a robust cup of coffee or steaming hot chocolate. This is a good time to check-in on Facebook – or not – depending on what feels right.

Go see a movie – maybe even in the middle of the day – and lose yourself in the story. Splurge for the bigger bucket of popcorn AND add butter. This is NOT the time to worry about those extra five pounds.

Take a cooking class with Fustini’s and promise yourself to make whatever that delicious dish is when you get home.

Check the Petoskey Area calendar of events to see what may be happening that you’d be interested in – could be a concert or show on just the day that you want.

Pamper yourself with a spa treatment. A mani/pedi or massage can make all the difference in how you feel. If you feel guilty thinking about doing this, think again. You’re worth it!

Go out for some nightlife – really, go ahead. Play the slots, spin the roulette wheel or listen to live music.

Want to sample some sparkling wines, red or white, fruity or even maple wine? The wineries of the Petoskey Wine Region are ready to serve up the best. Make it even better and have Vine Ride pick you up for a fun time that everyone in your group can enjoy.

Sleep in. Ask for a late checkout if you think you need it. Stretch and luxuriate in the knowledge that life went on without you for a day or two.

Thanksgiving always seems to sneak up on me. Don’t let it catch you off guard without first playing hooky from everyday life. Get your friends together and add one more thing to be thankful for this holiday season.
