Pan’s Labyrinth won 3 Academy Awards — Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, and Best Makeup — and earned 6 Oscar nominations, including Best Original Screenplay and Best Foreign Language Film. It also received multiple honors from critics groups as Best Film and Best Foreign Language Film, plus wins at the Satellite Awards, Online Film Critics Society Awards, and national critics circles. Globally, it collected over 100 awards and nominations and was celebrated at major festivals.
In 1944 Spain young Ofelia (Ivana Baquero) and her ailing mother (Ariadna Gil) arrive at the post of her mother’s new husband (Sergi López), a sadistic army officer who is trying to quell a guerrilla uprising. While exploring an ancient maze, Ofelia encounters the faun Pan, who tells her that she is a legendary lost princess and must complete three dangerous tasks in order to claim immortality.
