Northern Michigan contains some of the most important, diverse, and pristine water resources on earth. Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council protects these waters — Great Lakes, inland lakes, rivers, streams, wetlands, and groundwater — for future generations to enjoy their unspoiled character. Since 1979, the Watershed Council has protected the water resources of Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan and Emmet Counties. Supported by members of full-time and seasonal residents, lake associations, and businesses, the Watershed Council focus is on environmental integrity and economic and aesthetic values of water resources.

“The entire Wineguys restaurant family is keenly aware of our fortunate geographic locale,” explains Ben Walker, Roast & Toast Partner and General Manager. “We work diligently to reduce our carbon footprint and to support organizations that improve the environment.” Wineguys as a whole, for example, has shifted to post-consumer and recyclable take-out containers at each restaurant. Palette Bistro eliminated plastic straws several years ago. And, each restaurant embraces extensive recycling and composting practices.

“We are all, especially restaurants, huge water consumers. We brew our coffee with it. We serve fish from our lakes and streams. We swim and boat. And, we hope our support of Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council helps in their efforts to protect these amazing water resources,” Walker adds.
