Free dockside, hands-on tour of historic schooner Madeline from bow to stern. The Madeline is a reconstruction of a mid-19th century Great Lakes schooner and is operated by the Maritime Heritage Alliance. The Historical Society is hosting them for two days of public tours from the main city dock.
No reservations are required, though school and camp groups are encouraged to call 231.526.9771 to schedule tour times.
Between 1985 and 1990, 165 Maritime Heritage Alliance volunteers gave 40,000 hours to build the schooner Madeline, a 56-ft. twin-masted replica of an 1840s commercial vessel. The original schooner Madeline sailed the waters of the Great Lakes about 140 years ago. She was built in 1845 in Fairport, Ohio to carry freight.
