Alanson
The Village of Alanson, located roughly 20 minutes from Petoskey and 30 minutes from the Mackinac Bridge, lies on the banks of the Crooked River. The Crooked River is a major link within the 38-mile Inland Waterway that connects several inland lakes to Lake Huron lying to the Lower Peninsula of Michigan’s east. The Crooked River also contains one of two locks within the waterway system. [To learn more about the Inland Waterway system and its early history click here: Inland Waterway.]
Along with its many visitors and passersby due to the Inland Waterway, Alanson welcomes many visitors by snowmobile in the winter months to enjoy Michigan’s snowmobile trails. Visitors can also enjoy shopping for antiques, and baked goods from Dutch Oven Bakery, visit Crooked Vine Vineyard & Winery, stay at Stafford’s Crooked River Lodge, and hike, bike, or walk in the natural beauty of the area.
In the snowy winter months, Alanson becomes the ideal base camp for all of your snowmobile adventures.Where it lies along the more than 140 miles of snowmobile trails in Emmet in Charlevoix counties makes this so.
