Getting Here & Getting Around Petoskey Area
There are no major airports located within the Petoskey Area, making it all the more special than your average drive-by place. You have to purposefully go to the area to experience all there is to offer! If you aren’t taking a road trip to the area on major routes US 31 along the Lake Michigan coastline or US 131 north from Grand Rapids. If traveling in via I-75 south from Canada or north from various Michigan metro areas it’s only a short distance to get to the Petoskey Area. Read on for more information about the area’s nearest airports and advice on getting around in the region if you don’t drive.

Nearest Airports
Pellston Regional Airport (PLN) is approximately 25 miles north of the Petoskey Area, which makes it the closest airport. Delta and United Airlines service it with daily flights to and from Detroit and Chicago. Through this airport, they also offer car rentals (Avis and Hertz) and limited ground transportation.
Cherry Capital Airport (TVC) is south of the Petoskey Area, about 70 miles, and is our major regional hub for northern Michigan, with multiple airlines servicing the airport. As of 2025, TVC offers 20 non-stop flight locations from places like Chicago, Detroit, Denver, Dallas-Fort Worth, Philadelphia, Fort Lauderdale, and Orlando, to name a few.
Harbor Springs Municipal Airport (MGN) serves general aviation traffic for the Harbor Springs and Petoskey Area. Owned by the City of Harbor Springs, the Harbor-Petoskey Airport Authority operates the airport under lease from the City. No airlines service this airport, but it is accessible through chartered or private planes. Amenities at the airport include: lobby, refreshments, flight planning, restrooms, courtesy car, tie downs, pilots’ lounge, hangars, pilot supplies, and fuel.
Getting Around the Petoskey Area
Rental Cars
Ride share services like Uber and Lyft are very limited in the area, depending on the season. We recommend planning to utilize a rental car if you are arriving by airplane. Both Pellston and Traverse City airports offer rental car services.
Shuttles & Taxis
A select number of hotels and accommodations offer shuttle services to downtown areas and popular attractions. There are also general taxi services, wine tour operators, and airport transportation available.
Bike Rentals
Whether you shuttle, taxi, or rent a car you might still consider renting a bike while you’re in the area during the non-winter seasons. Our area communities are known for their bike-ability with access to trails like the Little Traverse Wheelway, Boyne City to Charlevoix Trail, Boyne Valley Trail, and Northwestern State Trail. Biking on the road you must abide by the rules of the road and share with vehicles.
Bike rentals are available at various outlets in Petoskey, Harbor Springs, and Boyne City. While several lodging properties offer bicycles and e-Bikes they would loan to you for free or a small fee if you are a lodging guest.
