Winter Trails the Petoskey Area

Winter outdoor recreation in the Petoskey Area isn’t just for downhill skiing and riding at the area ski resorts. Explore the many well-maintained trails in northern Michigan by going on a winter hike, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, or even fat-tire biking. You’ll be met with a unique sense of calm as the forest is tucked in with a blanket of snow.

Fat-tire biking is especially popular at the Avalanche Mountain Preserve, which is within walking (or biking distance) of Downtown Boyne City. As a North Country Trail Town, Petoskey and the surrounding area is a great trail with various sections to explore at one of the many trailheads in the area. Bear River Recreation Area, Skyline Trail, Deadman’s Hill Overlook, and Kipp Road Trailhead all intersect with the North Country Trail as well.

Snowmobile Trails

If you’re looking for a designated Snowmobile Route, you’ll want to check out those in Emmet and Charlevoix County in the Petoskey Area – more than 140 miles of forested pathways! The Moosejaw Trails (Harbor Springs Snowmobile Club), Petoskey Snowmobile Club Trails, and Indian River Snowmobile Grooming Club Reports.
