New year, new resolutions.  For some that means losing weight, trying a new sport, or heading out for an adventure.  In the Petoskey Area, the New Year is kicking off with a cool new event that IS an adventure.

The Fat & Flurrious Fat Tire Race is set for Saturday, January 20, at Avalanche Mountain and it’s going to be a doozy!  In addition to an awesome course, there’s the fact that the race will be held in Boyne City – a terrific place for winter fun, food and foam!

Make sure to start your day with a little fortification at one of Boyne City’s terrific breakfast stops like Café’ Sante or Robert’s to tackle the event. Next it’s off to registration at North Country Cycle Sport. Then it’s “On your mark, get set, ride!”

Those who have ridden Avalanche know this professionally designed trail will set your heart racing. Winter will only add to the challenge of the 6 and 10 mile routes. For newbies to this route, get ready to sweat. This will be the most challenging fat tire race in Michigan’s lower peninsula.

After the awards, it’s party time at Stigg’s as they celebrate their first anniversary in Boyne City, just minutes from more fat bike opportunities at the Boyne School Forest Trail and Boyne Mountain Resort. If you have the stamina, you may want to try one of those trails on Sunday.

This race isn’t for everyone – but for those riders looking for a new challenge in the new year, this is the place to be. Check out this awesome trail, find a place to stay in Boyne City or Boyne Falls and make a weekend of it. Ride on!
