Seberon “Boo” Litzenburger Nature Preserve
This preserve includes fallow field transitioning to traditional forest and a cedar swamp. The newly built lookout platform and bridge overlook and cross the beautiful Five Mile Creek that flows through the property and eventually empties into Little Traverse Bay/Lake Michigan. Once the site of an old general store, the remnants of a mill pond can still be found on the property.
Trail Description: Nearly 1-mile trail system out and back. Moderate walking with one steeper hill.
In Memory Of: In 2021, this preserve was purchased and protected by Liesel and Hank Meijer in memory of Liesel and Gow Litzenburger’s father, and one of LTC’s original founders, Seberon “Boo” Litzenburger. With a deep love and appreciation of northern Michigan, Boo dedicated his life to advocating for the protection of its land and water. His vision was for northern Michigan to be enjoyed by all and protected forever. When you walk these trails, take in the view from the platform, and listen to the creek as you cross the bridge, you will feel why Boo called this region “the most beautiful place in the world.”
How to Get There: From Harbor Springs, travel north on M-119 approximately 6 miles and turn right on Five Mile Creek Road (first right after Pond Hill Farm). The preserve parking area is just ahead on your right.
