About

Farragut’s Cannon was placed in Petoskey’s Pennsylvania Park in 1905. The cannon is a Dahlgren IX cannon from the USS Hartford and was used in the 1864 Battle of Mobile Bay in Alabama. Admiral Farragut is famous for the line, “Damn the torpedoes. Full speed ahead.”

Other than Little Traverse Bay, the cannon may well be one of the most photographed things in Petoskey as families often pose on or near it.
