One of the most beloved authors of all time is commemorated each year in the Petoskey Area with an event surrounding his works and life. Now in its 15th year, the C.S. Lewis Festival celebrates the writer with activities for adults and children, too.

Though he died in 1964, C.S. Lewis books have never gone out of print. In fact, they’re still best sellers today. From Dymer, his first released story in 1926, to the last book released while he was still living, An Experiment in Criticism, Lewis was successful in his writings, which the public loved – but none were more endearing and enduring than The Chronicles of Narnia.

The literary festival spans several days and includes book discussions, films, a writer’s workshop, and pub nights where the conversation will be as smooth as the beer. Thursday, October 26th is a very special night as Emmy Award winning filmmaker, David Crouse, will lead a question and answer session following the screening of “The Magic Never Ends: The Life and Works of C.S. Lewis.”

Other highlights: a full day of lectures on October 26th, a highly anticipated sneak peak of a new Tolkien & Lewis documentary that will air nationwide on PBS this fall, and two live productions of Narnia: The Musical (based on The Chronicles of Narnia.)

Lewis has inspired many a reader over the last several decades.  Those who have not been touched by his writing most likely never read any of his works – and those works continue to impact the upcoming generations who believe in goodness and dare to dream.
