Beaches

Glittering blue water and soft, warm sand make the beaches along Lake Michigan’s Little Traverse Bay and inland lakes a reason alone to vacation here. The Petoskey Area of northern Michigan is home to some of the most picturesque and inviting beaches in the state. Take a dip, catch some rays, build a sandcastle. Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly day in the sand, a peaceful place to watch a million-dollar sunset, or a chance to hunt for the famous Petoskey stones, this region offers a rich variety of beach experiences.

Things to Know Before You Go:

  • Water temperatures in Lake Michigan remain cool, even in summer, so be prepared for a refreshing swim.

  • Always check local beach rules, as some may restrict pets or fires.

  • Petoskey stones are legal to collect in small quantities for personal use, but commercial collecting is not allowed in state parks.
