Event Details
Join the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra at Great Lakes Center for the Arts in Bay Harbor for Dreams of Faraway Lands with Flute Soloist Nancy Stagnitta – an exciting musical journey inspired by the cultures of faraway lands on Saturday, April 20th.
Musical portraits by celebrated composers will transport you to the distant regions of the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Southern Europe in this smorgasbord-concert of distinct musical cultures presenting works such as Mozart’s Abduction from Seraglio and Turkish March, Rossini’s Italian Girl in Algiers, Turina’s Five Gipsy Dances, and Sibelius’ incidental score for the play Belshazzar’s Feast.
The highlight of the concert is Marcus Paus’ Portrait of Zhou for Flute and Orchestra. Paus is the most prominent contemporary Norwegian composer of our time known for promoting works that are influenced by folk music and non-Western classical music, in this case Chinese music. The piece will be presented by an award-winning flutist Nancy Stagnitta, who is a leading crossover artist as both a classical flutist and jazz artist. Her passion, versatility, and elegant artistry have led to concert engagements in Africa, Europe, Asia, and across the U.S. In 2018, she gave the Asian premiere of David Amram’s Giants of the Night Flute Concerto with the China National Symphony in Beijing.

Event Details
Calling all bluegrass and American roots music fans to join around the “campfire” with the GRAMMY Award-winning duo The Okee Dokee Brothers at Great Lakes Center for the Arts on Friday, May 10th. As childhood friends growing up in Denver, Colorado, Joe Mailander and Justin Lansing were always exploring the outdoors. Whether it was rafting down their neighborhood creek or discovering hiking trails through the Rocky Mountains, Joe and Justin were born adventurers. Now, as the GRAMMY® Award-winning Okee Dokee Brothers, they have put this passion for the outdoors at the heart of their Americana Folk music.
Joe and Justin record and perform family music with a goal to inspire children and their parents to step outside and get creative. They believe this can motivate kids to gain a greater respect for the natural world, their communities, and themselves.
The five-time Parents’ Choice Award winners have garnered praise from the likes of NPR’s All Things Considered and USA Today, and have been called “two of family music’s best songwriters.”

Preservation Hall Jazz Band was founded in 1961, and since then has been dedicated to playing and promoting the traditions of New Orleans jazz.
PHJB marches that tradition forward once again on So It Is. The album redefines what New Orleans music means today by tapping into a sonic continuum that stretches back to the city’s Afro-Cuban roots, through its common ancestry with the Afrobeat of Fela Kuti and the Fire Music of Pharoah Sanders and John Coltrane, and forward to cutting-edge artists with whom the PHJB have shared festival stages from Coachella to Newport, including legends like Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello and the Grateful Dead and modern giants like Beck, The Foo Fighters, My Morning Jacket, and the Black Keys.

Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana & Saint-Säens Organ Symphony is a true community masterpiece presenting 120 local artists spanning 4 generations! Join Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra at John M. Hall Auditorium in Bay View on June 14th for this wonderful event.
The performance includes two masterworks and audience favorites, Carmina Burana by Carl Orff and Organ Symphony by Saint Saens. Featured performers include distinguished artists of the Bay View Chautauqua Music Festival, GLCO Orchestra and Chorus, Little Traverse Choral Society led by Andre Strydom, and Harbor Springs Children ’s Choir led by Amy Cross, coming together at the historic John M. Hall Auditorium in Bay View.
This is a unique opportunity to hear these masterpieces as they both require a large performance force and thus are not presented very often. Carmina Burana was last performed in our community over a decade ago and is fondly remembered by our residents to this day. The Saint Saens’ Organ Symphony is one of the rare works that incorporates the “King of the instruments” into the fabric of the score. The organ at the John M. Hall Auditorium is a majestic instrument by Pilcher with all the stops at the disposal to recreate the soundscape of the Organ Symphony masterfully performed by a virtuoso organist Kelly Hale.

Ben Folds brings his Paper Airplane Rescue tour to John M Hall Auditorium in Bay View Association on June 28, 2024.
Bay View proudly announces Emmy-nominated, multi-platinum-selling pianist and singer-songwriter Ben Folds will return to the historic John M. Hall Auditorium stage on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 8 p.m. Folds will bring the return of his popular “Paper Airplane Request Tour” after first performing in Bay View in 2018 to a sold-out crowd.
What initially began years ago as a request for songs as encores will once again be a central element in Folds’ shows when he engages audiences to make their song requests via paper Airplanes.
“The last time I did this on tour the response was overwhelming, with literally hundreds of paper airplanes with song requests being launched on cue from fans at the start of the second half of each of my concerts,” said Folds. “It’s the purest, most low-tech form of engagement that creates a special bond with my audiences.”
