The Series at Lavender Hill Farm is a live music concert series held in their beautifully renovated, multi-use barn starring some of the best talent from across the United States and beyond. The bands are carefully selected to uniquely represent a wide array of music styles and bring an unexpected variety to Northern Michigan. Guests arrive early and enjoy picnicking with friends on our lawn overlooking fields of lavender. Our venue, built in 1920, has been skillfully adapted with lighting, sound, and stage. We hope that you enjoy your time on our farm and welcome you to make The Series at Lavender Hill Farm a summer tradition.
About the Band: Sierra Hull is widely regarded to be a master of her instrument; A two-time Grammy Nominated artist and songwriter, recognized for both her most recent projects, 25 Trips (2020) and Weighted Mind (2016), she is also the 4x recipient of IBMA’s Mandolin Player of the Year, the first woman to ever receive this distinction. A pioneer for acoustic music throughout her already impressive multi-decade career, she has graced the country’s most iconic stages, including Carnegie Hall, the Grand Ole Opry, and the White House. Her virtuosic abilities have garnered respect from genre-defining trailblazers, friends, and collaborators such as Alison Krauss, Sturgill Simpson, Garth Brooks, Dolly Parton, Bela Fleck, Bobby McFerrin, and Brandi Carlile. Originally hailing from Byrdstown, Tennessee, her unique sound is rooted in bluegrass, and she is widely considered one of acoustic music’s most inventive artists.

Inspired by the sounds of 60’s era Motown, Stax and Atlantic Records, the unmistakable geniuses of Ray Charles and James Brown, and the effervescent charm of the Blues Brothers, Owen James and the Feels bring a soulful twist to Downtown Sounds. The group represents the merger of multiple Owen James-led bands over many years. First, the Pop, Rock & Favorites guitar/vocal duo, Story & James, with his long time collaborator and life partner, Maya Story. Second, the Owen James Quartet (& sometimes Quintet/Sextet), a straight ahead Jazz unit featuring small combos of horns with rhythm section. Finally, the Owen James Trio 1, a jazz-tinged, funk & soul leaning quartet with guitar, keyboards, bass & drums. And now, it’s Owen James and the Feels!

Basic Comfort is Kalamazoo, Michigan’s Alternative Pop band. With the release of their latest self-produced sophomore album, Dimensions, Basic Comfort has explored and distilled the many dimensions of connection to the self and others.
While their lyrics are sure to leave you in a state of contemplation, touching on feelings of love, letting go, and the confusion of internal needs, the rhythms and melodies will simultaneously leave you dancing and singing along for days.
The group takes inspiration from artists like Parcels, Gil Scott Heron, Daft Punk, and Men I Trust.
They have been featured in publications such as The AU Review, A&R Factory, Revue Magazine, Local Spins, and Come Here Floyd. Basic Comfort was awarded a grant from the Kalamazoo Arts Council to help fund the production and promotion of their album “Dimensions.”
