The area’s premier choral group returns to the GLCFA stage in celebration of their 35^th anniversary with a program celebrating the importance of music in our lives and community, and in praise of the natural beauty that surrounds us. With the world première of a commissioned piece by Northern Michigan composer, Jeff Cobb, which draws on Ojibwe culture and lore to tell a deeper story about not only the beauty, but the meaning and impact of each of the seasons, there is also music by Franz Schubert, Leonard Bernstein, Gwyneth Walker, and Eric Whitacre, amongst others.

Calling all bluegrass and American roots music fans to join around the “campfire” with the GRAMMY Award-winning duo The Okee Dokee Brothers at Great Lakes Center for the Arts on Friday, May 10th. As childhood friends growing up in Denver, Colorado, Joe Mailander and Justin Lansing were always exploring the outdoors. Whether it was rafting down their neighborhood creek or discovering hiking trails through the Rocky Mountains, Joe and Justin were born adventurers. Now, as the GRAMMY® Award-winning Okee Dokee Brothers, they have put this passion for the outdoors at the heart of their Americana Folk music.

Joe and Justin record and perform family music with a goal to inspire children and their parents to step outside and get creative. They believe this can motivate kids to gain a greater respect for the natural world, their communities, and themselves.

The five-time Parents’ Choice Award winners have garnered praise from the likes of NPR’s All Things Considered and USA Today, and have been called “two of family music’s best songwriters.”

Odawa Casino is proud to announce Gunnar and the Grizzly Boys on Friday, May 10th as part of our Country Concert Series. This will continue the second Friday of each month through November. Doors open at 8 pm, show at 9 pm $10 Cover charge.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band was founded in 1961, and since then has been dedicated to playing and promoting the traditions of New Orleans jazz.

PHJB marches that tradition forward once again on So It Is. The album redefines what New Orleans music means today by tapping into a sonic continuum that stretches back to the city’s Afro-Cuban roots, through its common ancestry with the Afrobeat of Fela Kuti and the Fire Music of Pharoah Sanders and John Coltrane, and forward to cutting-edge artists with whom the PHJB have shared festival stages from Coachella to Newport, including legends like Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello and the Grateful Dead and modern giants like Beck, The Foo Fighters,  My Morning Jacket, and the Black Keys.

Peter Allen Jensen is a country blues & roots finger-style guitarist and singer who’s building on the music tradition based on sounds of 80 to 90 years ago. He plays a combination of Ragtime, Delta, and Chicago Blues styles with rare proficiency. He also plays in the American Primitive Guitar style based on the works of John Fahey and Leo Kottke.

Peter has spent time and played with acoustic blues masters Paul Rishell and Annie Raines, as well as legendary finger-style guitarist Woody Mann.

Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana & Saint-Säens Organ Symphony is a true community masterpiece presenting 120 local artists spanning 4 generations! Join Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra at John M. Hall Auditorium in Bay View on June 14th for this wonderful event.

The performance includes two masterworks and audience favorites, Carmina Burana by Carl Orff and Organ Symphony by Saint Saens. Featured performers  include distinguished artists of the Bay View Chautauqua Music Festival, GLCO Orchestra and Chorus, Little Traverse Choral Society led by Andre Strydom, and Harbor Springs Children ’s Choir led by Amy Cross, coming together at the historic John M. Hall Auditorium in Bay View.

This is a unique opportunity to hear these masterpieces as they both require a large performance force and thus are not presented very often. Carmina Burana was last performed in our community over a decade ago and is fondly remembered by our residents to this day. The Saint Saens’ Organ Symphony is one of the rare works that incorporates the “King of the instruments” into the fabric of the score. The organ at the John M. Hall Auditorium is a majestic instrument by Pilcher with all the stops at the disposal to recreate the soundscape of the Organ Symphony masterfully performed by a virtuoso organist Kelly Hale.

Come see The Rough & Tumble at Lavender Hill Farm on Saturday, June 22nd from 6 – 9 PM. The Rough & Tumble is a folk/Americana duo, consisting of Mallory Graham & Scott Tyler. Forming in 2011, they spent 8 years full-time in a 16ft camper with two big dogs and one hamster, playing roughly 150 shows a year. At home at festivals (Mile of Music, 30A, Nor-Eastr’,) listening rooms (Caffe Lena, Club Passim, Eddie’s Attic) and house concerts across the country, their commanding stage presence, engaging performances and affecting songwriting won them official showcases at Folk Alliance International, NERFA, SERFA and the Independent Music Awards Americana Song of the Year for their song “The Hardest Part. 2021’s We’re Only Family If You Say So, an album about what it means to be family and then to lose it, had singles debuting on American Songwriter and The Bluegrass Situation and has been embraced by fans for its stark honesty, unique storytelling and well-crafted melodies. The band now resides in New Hampshire and their new album, Only This Far, was released in May 2023 that has been described as “quality songs, well written, well played, well sung and arranged, and a pleasure from start to end.”

Ben Folds brings his Paper Airplane Rescue tour to John M Hall Auditorium in Bay View Association on June 28, 2024.

Bay View proudly announces Emmy-nominated, multi-platinum-selling pianist and singer-songwriter Ben Folds will return to the historic John M. Hall Auditorium stage on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 8 p.m. Folds will bring the return of his popular “Paper Airplane Request Tour” after first performing in Bay View in 2018 to a sold-out crowd. 

What initially began years ago as a request for songs as encores will once again be a central element in Folds’ shows when he engages audiences to make their song requests via paper  Airplanes. 

“The last time I did this on tour the response was overwhelming, with literally hundreds of paper airplanes with song requests being launched on cue from fans at the start of the second half of each of my concerts,” said Folds. “It’s the purest, most low-tech form of engagement that creates  a special bond with my audiences.”

Save the date for Crooked Tree Arts Center’s Charlotte Ross Lee Concerts in the Park for this summer of 2024! Pack a picnic and head to Pennsylvania Park in Downtown Petoskey for CTAC’s annual Charlotte Ross Lee Concerts in the Park Series 2024! Held 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. each Wednesday and Friday, June 19th through August 16th, the concert series brings a line-up of local musicians to the Gazebo stage. Bring a lunch, lawn chair, or picnic blanket, and enjoy live music in the park! These performances are free and open to the public.

Each concert is 12 noon – 1 pm at the Gazebo in Pennsylvania park.

Singer-songwriter Laura Thurston, “Armed with a guitar, harmonica, tambourine and suitcase kick drum, she is a one-woman band”  On top of that, Laura then adds sweet sugary vocals to her acoustic Folk-Grass mix while giving energy and presence to capture your attention.  This talented musician launched her solo career in 2011 performing up and down the east coast.

The Boyne Area Chamber of Commerce Pavilion Summer Concert Series is located at the pavilion in Veterans Park for the 2024 summer season. Concerts will take place each Wednesday evening, 6:30 pm-8:00 pm, June 12 through August 28, 2024.
