Event Details
Since 1974, The Robert Cray Band has been touring and recording their unique groove, born from a love of Soul, R&B, Gospel, Blues, and Rock n’ Roll.
The Robert Cray Band is touring the US and UK for the first time since the 2020 release of his album, That’s What I Heard.
“Funky, cool, and bad” is how Cray describes the Grammy-nominated album, produced by longtime collaborator Steve Jordan, who adds, “I thought if we could get this thing that Sam Cooke used to have, the kind of sound that early Sam Cooke records had, that we could pull this off.”
“Robert Cray is not only making music, he’s making history,” writes Guitar Player Magazine. Over the past four decades, Cray has created a sound that rises from American roots, blues, soul, and R&B, with five Grammy wins and 20 acclaimed studio and live albums that punctuate the Blues Hall of Famer’s career. On That’s What I Heard, Robert Celebrates the music of Curtis Mayfield, Bobby “Blue” Bland, The Sensational Nightingales, and more, alongside Cray’s own songs.
Cray and Jordan go way back, having met during the making of the Chuck Berry documentary Hail! Hail! Rock ‘n’ Roll, in 1987. They started working together in 1999 when Jordan produced the Grammy-winning Take Your Shoes Off and the recent Grammy-nominated LP Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm. That’s What I Heard is their sixth album. “Once you start working with Steve, it’s kind of hard to get away from him,” said Robert.
“Robert is just a great person besides being an extraordinary talent,” adds Jordan. “People gravitate to his guitar playing first, but I think he’s one of the best singers I’ve heard in my life. Not only because of his singing ability but his interpretations. He’s such an honest soul, in my opinion.”
Robert’s band features Richard Cousins (bass), Dover Weinberg (keyboards), and Les Falconer (drums).

Event Details
Join Crooked Tree Arts Center in Petoskey for Laith Al-Saadi live on October 6th from 7:30 pm – 9 pm. In 2016, Laith Al-Saadi won America’s hearts and a spot in the Season 10 finale of NBC’s “The Voice.” Now he’s poised to bring his authentic blend of blues, soul, and classic rock to audiences around the nation and the world.
Laith Al-Saadi has always had the perfect combination of Midwestern hustle and incredible musical chops – honed at the University of Michigan School of Music in his hometown of Ann Arbor, and on stages across the country working with legends like Taj Mahal, Luther Allison, Buddy Guy, Son Seals, Gregg Allman, B.B. King, Aretha Franklin, Paul Rodgers and recently opened for Bob Seger on his farewell tour in January, 2019.
“Laith is one of the most diverse talents we have,” said Maroon 5 frontman and ‘The Voice’ coach Adam Levine. “Incredible guitar player, incredible singer.”
Entertainment Weekly called Laith Al-Saadi “a power performer who is so legitimate and memorable.”
Audiences have agreed, propelling Al-Saadi’s most recent CD release, “REAL” to the top of the blues chart for five weeks and the top 20 album chart for two weeks. Laith also had four singles in the top ten iTunes singles charts, and his albums “In The Round” and “Long Time Coming” spent time at the top of the rock and album charts. Al-Saadi also received a Detroit Music Award in 2018 for Best New Recording for his Digital EP “A 75th Birthday Tribute to Jimi Hendrix.
Guitar World Magazine has called Laith Al-Saadi a cross between “Danny Gatton and Buddy Guy at their best,” and in 2006 Guitar Center crowned him one of the top four blues guitarists in the United States.
University of Michigan Graduate, Degree in Jazz Guitar and Bass.

Event Details
Join Crooked Tree Arts Center to see The Moxie Strings on November 18th from 7:30 – 9 PM. Hailed by the Grand Rapids Press for “top-notch instrumental wizardry,” The Moxie Strings offer listeners the unique opportunity to experience some of the world’s best-known instruments through a young, progressive lens. Diana Ladio and Alison Lynn hold Bachelor of Music degrees in music performance, which have given them a technical foundation for exploration. The Moxie Strings compose the majority of their pieces and arrange melodies from many traditions, resulting in a genre-blurring blend of ear-catching melodies and foot-stomping, rock-influenced rhythms. Alison performs on an electric cello, and Diana on a contemporary five-string violin, both through a variety of audio effects pedals. Their polished, high-energy show and unique sound have quickly made The Moxie Strings one of the country’s leading instrumental acts, and they even topped Billboard’s Classical Crossover chart last year. The Moxie Strings are going on hiatus, so don’t miss this chance to see them one last time.

Event Details
Join Crooked Tree Arts Center (CTAC) as they present Djangophonique on January 13th from 7:30 pm – 9 pm. With respect for the tradition and a fearless creativity that bends the conventions of the style, Djangophonique is keeping the Hot Club revival alive and well.
Djangophonique is a virtuosic, instrumentally driven quartet led by guitar player Andrew Brown. With over a decade of national touring experience, Brown is no stranger to the stage and delivers every performance with personality and enigmatic charm. A true disciple of the style, Brown has spent countless hours immersing himself in the language of Django Reinhardt’s jazz manouche, and he’s joined on stage by bandmates that match his skill and passion for the material. The result is a sound that’s unmistakable to fans of the music, and alluring to the uninitiated—a sound that can bring the lively energy of a parisian dance hall to the quietest listening room or captivate a buzzing festival audience with a shimmering ballad. The core group of Djangophonique includes Tyler Rindo on clarinet, Zach Croft on rhythm guitar, and Jorian Olk-Szost on upright bass. However Djangophonique often appears in different incarnations thanks to Brown’s ever growing network of collaborators within the jazz world. Djagophonique has been nominated for Detroit Music Awards including Outstanding T raditional Jazz Artist and Outstanding Jazz Recording (for their 2020 EP Jazz Du Jour.) Their first studio album “Introducing Djangophonique” is available on CD, Vinyl, and via Digital Download with a streaming release date of September 2022.
