So many misconceptions about wine and really, isn’t the most important thing about consuming wine whether or not your palate applauds it?
May is Michigan Wine Month and it’s a great time to explore the state’s wineries. Wine tasting is about taking a sip here and a sip there in search of the perfect nectar, while enjoying a variety of tastes along the way.
According to Michiganwines.com, the official website of Michigan’s Wine Industry, Michigan is home to 131 wineries bottling more than 2.4 million gallons of wine annually. Production of Michigan wine has increased 34% over the last five years.
The Petoskey Area is a big contributor to the state’s upward trends and the Bay View Wine Trail is part of that growth. Guests are loving the intimate wineries that have cropped up in Petoskey, Indian River, Alanson and Harbor Springs, and even more are scheduled to open in the region. Cold hardy grapes, fruits and even maple are all being used to create a variety of new tastes that are giving visitors just one more reason to visit the Tip of the Mitt.
