The concert’s theme centers on bird calls in classical music, as we celebrate the return of spring.

The performance, “Take to the Sky”,  features world-renowned violinist Dmitri Berlinsky. Professor of violin and artist at Michigan State University College of Music, Berlinsky has performed in major venues such as Carnegie and Avery Fisher halls in New York, The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, and Mariinsky Concert Hall.

Berlinsky will be the featured soloist in Vaughn Williams’ “Lark Ascending”.

“Take to the Sky” will also include Ottorino Respighi’s “Gli Uccelli” (The Birds), Einojuhani Rautavaara’s “Cantus Arcticus”, and Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Sixth Symphony” (first movement).

Rautavaara’s “concerto for birds and orchestra”, as it’s subtitled, uses taped birdsong throughout the lush musical performance.

A pre-concert talk with Ondras will precede the concert at 6 p.m.

Reserved seating concert tickets are available at www.glcorchestra.org. For more information, and for free tickets for vets and active service members and for those 18 and under, call the office at 231.487.0010.
