Blissfest Music Organization is pleased to present bi-lingual and multi-instrumentalist Leyla McCalla on Saturday, February 19 at Crooked Tree Arts Center and will be Livestreamed.
Leyla is an alumna of Grammy award-winning African-American string band, the Carolina Chocolate Drops, and a current member of Our Native Daughters with Rhiannon Giddens, Amythyst Kiah, Leyla McCalla, and Allison Russell.
Her work unearthing history and musical tradition, combined with her knowledge of cultural hybridization and her own identity as a Haitian-American has given her an entirely unique voice & perspective. Her music reflects her eclectic and diverse life experiences, projecting a respect for eloquent simplicity that is rarely achieved.
“Leyla is someone we have been wanting to get to Blissfest for a long time. We first came across her with the Carolina Chocolate Drops but she is an amazingly talented instrumentalist and vocalist on her own,” said Caroline Barlow, Blissfest Talent Buyer.
Tickets for the upcoming shows are priced at $25 for Blissfest members, $30 for general admission and $10 for a Livestream option with the sound produced by Mike Luusua and video by Alpine Media.
“The professional sound and video Livestream is a great and affordable option to watch from home,” said Barlow.
